How do electric mopeds or bikes work?

Electric mopeds and electric bikes are classified within two separated categories: electrically assisted pedalling or electrically assisted bike.

The majority of bikes currently on the market fall into this category. In general the brushless motors with a fixed rotor and an electric charge function with electricity generated by a controller. The motor is usually installed in the rear hub, sometimes in the pedal box and rarely on the front wheel. A magnetic or optic detection system identifies the rider turning the pedals which starts the motor. The electronic controller controls the speed limit. The action of breaking immediately stops the motor. The battery or rather the type of battery is the key element of the vehicle. Our bikes are equipped with Lithium-Polymer batteries, which are powerful yet light.

Electric moped

This category, which also includes scooters, is similar to the previous category except that you don’t need to pedal for the motor to start. They are equipped with pedals and more often a derailleur as well which helps when a slope is more than 8%. The ScooBike Solix 60 belongs in this category.

The ScooBike Solix 60 moped is approved in Switzerland with the number 7SA9 01.
